Using Aerosol OT in Hexane Solution to Synthesize Calcium Nitrate Self-Healing Refined Microcapsules for Construction Applications

چکیده

The micro-encapsulation procedure of calcium nitrate in urea-formaldehyde shell is well known. most recent developed method for the synthesis self-healing micro-capsules was based on in-situ polymerization using water-in-oil emulsion. Although microcapsules’ yield significantly improved this approach, incorporating into concrete mixes has been found to reduce strength. One potential strength reduction cause might be presence sulfonic acid as a component continuous (oil) phase. As anionic surfactant, Aerosol OT (AOT) widely used prepare emulsions and form aggregates non-polar solvents; submicron refined microcapsules were synthesized AOT hexane solution. While aqueous phase original encapsulation not altered, organic prepared by dissolving hexane. characterized Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). preliminary assessment effect cementitious materials carried out preparing mortar 75% capsules’ concentration (by weight cement). reported values, average thickness, diameter satisfactory. Moreover, samples containing that proposed did experience significant their mechanical properties. Hence, such may adopted further investigation efficiency procedure. Future work shall directed towards end.

Urea-phenol-formaldehyde microcapsules containing linseed oil for self-healing anticorrosive coating applications

Novel self-repairing Urea-Phenol-Formaldehyde (UPF) microcapsules containing linseed oil were prepared via in-situ polymerization in an oil-in-water emulsion. The main purpose of encapsulation is to control the release of linseed oil, when external conditions such as mechanical stress or energy cause microcapsules to break. These controlled release mechanisms of linseed oil make them suitable f...

Robust, double-walled microcapsules for self-healing polymeric materials.

Double-walled polyurethane/poly(urea-formaldehyde) microcapsules (PU/UF) are prepared for use in self-healing materials. This modified encapsulation procedure combines two chemistries to form more robust capsule shell walls in a single operation. Robust capsules are formed by this procedure as long as the aromatic polyisocyanate prepolymer is soluble in the core liquid and the core liquid is co...

Microcapsules filled with reactive solutions for self-healing materials

Microcapsules containing a solvent and reactive epoxy resin are a critical component for the development of cost-effective, low toxicity, and low flammability self-healing materials. We report a robust in situ encapsulation method for protection of a variety of oil soluble solvents and reactive epoxy resins surrounded by a thin, polymeric, urea–formaldehyde (UF) shell. Resin–solvent capsules ar...

Mechanical Properties of Microcapsules Used in a Self-Healing Polymer

The elastic modulus and failure behavior of poly(urea-formaldehyde) shelled microcapsules were determined through single-capsule compression tests. Capsules were tested both dry and immersed in a fluid isotonic with the encapsulent. The testing of capsules immersed in a fluid had little influence on mechanical behavior in the elastic regime. Elastic modulus of the capsule shell wall was extract...
